Riverdale falls in regular season finale

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Evan Boecker scored a goal in each half to lead Ottoville to a 3-1 victory against Riverdale in a non-conference boys soccer match Saturday. With the match tied at 1, Boecker scored 25:30 into the first half and then about midway through the second half.

Montgomery’s even-par 72 good for 4th after Day 1 at state tourney

SUNBURY — While it was not perfect, Brett Montgomery’s opening round in the Division II state golf tournament Friday at NorthStar Golf Club was good enough. The Upper Sandusky sophomore shot a 72 and is tied for fourth place after one day. “I’m pretty happy about it,” Montgomery said. “I’m not ecstatic. I left a few shots out there, but I also got a few back. Overall, I can’t complain.”

Wynford holds off Seneca East without Smith at QB

BUCYRUS — It was an inspired performance for Wynford on Friday night in honor of injured quarterback Wyatt Smith. The senior stood on the sidelines on crutches hours after having surgery to repair a broken leg suffered in last week’s loss to Lima Central Catholic providing a needed spark to help the Royals clinch sole ownership of first-place in the Northern 10 with a 31-13 dispatching of Seneca East.

Upper pulls away from BC

Upper Sandusky closed out a 28-12 homecoming football victory over Buckeye Central with a pair of fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns. Mason Vent and Nate McMillan each scored their second touchdowns on the ground in the final frame to push the Rams ahead.

Mohawk thwarts Bucyrus

SYCAMORE — Mohawk celebrated its 300th football victory at Warrior Field with a dominant offensive performance against Bucyrus Friday night. The Warriors put up over 600 yards of offense en route to a 42-14 final score.

Kuenzli shoots 20-over par

COLUMBUS – A few uncharacteristically bad holes got Riverdale freshman Andrew Kuenzli on the first day of the Division III state golf tournament Saturday at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course in Columbus. Kuenzli shot a 20-over 92 and was tied for 53rd place of 72 golfers after one round.

Eagles top Rams in 4 sets

NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford finished in sole possession of fourth place in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference by taking a 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22 victory against Upper Sandusky on Thursday night.

Falcons win 4th straight

RAWSON — Three different Riverdale players scored as the Falcons extended their winning streak to four with a 3-0 victory at Cory-Rawson on Thursday. Matthew Mason, Coby Miller and Taylor Bacon all scored goals.
