NORWALK — Carey’s Sydney Kin and Mohawk’s Destini Oler both were named first-team All-District 6 volleyball selections in Division IV. Kin, a 6-2 senior middle hitter, was the leading hitter (4.75 kills per set) and leading blocker (1.15 per set) in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference and also averaged 2.62 digs per set.

ELIDA — A victory in a tight third set at least would have given Carey a chance to change its fortunes Saturday afternoon, but it was not mean to be. Buckeye Central star Jenna Karl had three key kills down the stretch to help her team sweep the Northern 10 Athletic Conference rival Blue Devils, 25-15, 25-20, 26-24, in a Division IV regional final volleyball match Saturday at Elida Fieldhouse.

HEBRON – With a push down the last straightaway, Destini Oler beat Annette Daniel’s Mohawk school record and secured a spot among Ohio’s finest cross country runners. Oler’s 25th-place finish in 19:36.7 in the Division-III girls race at the OHSAA state cross country championships Saturday at National Trail Raceway was good enough for the last All-Ohio honorable mention.

PANDORA — Mohawk seemed to have the momentum when it blocked a punt and scored a touchdown to open the second half, but Pandora-Gilboa stole it back quickly on the arm of quarterback Jared Breece. He threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes, and the No. 3 Rockets held off the No. 6 Warriors, 19-15, in a Division VII Region 26 first-round playoff game Friday night in Pandora.

BUCYRUS — Griffin Summit found a seam early, and Carey got the stops it needed late. The No. 7-seed Blue Devils were 7-2 winners in a Division VI first-round playoff matchup at No. 2 Wynford on Friday.

BUCYRUS — Friday night’s playoff football game between Wynford and Carey was all about Carey’s defense, which set the tone on Wynford’s first offensive possession. The Blue Devils gave up 0 yards on Wynford’s first two rushes, then senior cornerback Cody Luzader promptly intercepted Joel Griffin’s pass on third-and-10.

ELIDA — With a 2-0 lead, Carey could have stood to lose the third set of Thursday night’s Division IV regional semifinal match against Toledo Christian at the Elida Fieldhouse.

ELIDA — The Carey volleyball team is hoping the third time is the charm against Buckeye Central. The Northern 10 Athletic Conference rivals will meet again in Saturday’s Division IV regional final after the Bucks swept the regular season series and wound up unbeaten in league play.

SYCAMORE — It has not been easy, but Mohawk senior Destini Oler has succeeded in being a two-sport fall athlete to an extreme degree. In her first year running cross country — in addition to playing volleyball — Oler will compete in the state meet this Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.

BUCYRUS — Wynford will make its 12th football playoffs appearance in 13 years Friday when it hosts Carey in a Division VI regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. The Royals remain a model of consistency.
