Upper rolls to 66-9 win against Carey, but May wins showdown

CAREY — The Upper Sandusky wrestling team may have left Carey High School with a 66-9 victory over the Blue Devils, but the Blue Devils saved their best for last. The final match, the 182-pound weight class, paired Carey sophomore Tanner May — a state placer as a freshman who had a 12-0 record this year entering the match — against Upper Sandusky senior Noah Clary, a returning state qualifier who is ranked third in Division II.

Santoros lead Bellevue past Upper

Anytime Abigail Fogle hit a big shot for Upper Sandusky, it was either Casey or Cory Santoro that had the answer. Fogle hit six 3-pointers but the Santoro sisters combined for 50 points as Bellevue knocked off the Rams, 61-50, in non-league action.

Calvert tops Mohawk in 2 OTs

SYCAMORE — Could it happen again? That’s what the Mohawk girls basketball team’s players, coaches and fans were hoping as the Warriors prepared to inbound the ball trailing by two points with 2.7 seconds remaining in double overtime of Tuesday’s contest against Tiffin Calvert.

Luzader matches Carey record with 8 3s

CAREY — Cody Luzader matched the school record with eight 3-pointers as Carey pulled away in the second half for a 70-46 victory Tuesday night against Liberty-Benton. Luzader broke the school record two seasons ago when he hit 8 3-pointers against Vanlue.

Rams 2nd at Mohawk Invitational

SYCAMORE — Upper Sandusky was second, Mohawk fifth, Carey sixth and Riverdale seventh among 14 teams Saturday in the Mohawk Invitational junior high wrestling tournament. Oak Harbor won with 344 points, followed by the Rams with 197 points, Tiffin with 164 points, Bluffton with 135, Mohawk with 113.5, Carey with 97 and Riverdale with 88.

Rams junior high split with Eagles

NORTH ROBINSON — The Upper Sandusky seventh grade girls basketball team won a defensive battle with Colonel Crawford, 25-14, on Monday. Kaidance Iles led the Rams with 8 points, followed by Veloria Stowers with 6 points and Cassidy Breidenbach with 3 points.

BC stays unbeaten by holding off Upper

Christmas came more than week early for Buckeye Central coach Greg Moore. Buckeye Central’s defense clamped down after the first quarter and the Bucks earned their first girls basketball win against the Rams since the teams became conference foes during the 2012-13 season, taking a 47-44 victory that gives Buckeye Central the early lead in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference.
