On a night when her Upper Sandusky girls basketball teammates needed her the most, junior Madison McLaughlin stepped up. After Bucyrus junior guard Ni’Georia Floyd buried a 3-pointer from the left corner to tie the game with 1:07 remaining, McLaughlin received a pass from Alexis Fogle on a fast break and hit a left-side layup.

CAREY — Once Carey starting moving the ball well, it was able to get the ball inside to 6-foot-2 All-Ohioan Sydney Kin, she converted time after time, and the Blue Devils erased a fourth-quarter to deficit to defeat North Baltimore, 59-52, in overtime on Friday night.

LIMA — Upper Sandusky’s boys were fourth and the girls were fifth Wednesday in the Lima Holiday Swim Invitational at the Lima YMCA. The Rams boys scored 170 points, placing behind winner Lima Shawnee (465), runner-up Wapakoneta (320) and third place Ottawa-Glandorf (219).

ATTICA — Seneca East nearly topped Mohawk’s final score in the first quarter in a 78-23 blowout victory for the Tigers on Friday. Seneca East (7-2, 4-2 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and didn’t let up, scoring 20 points or more in three of the four quarters.

ATTICA — Mohawk’s Zach Hayman has found ways to score without his 3-point shot falling. Unfortunately for Seneca East, he had that working Thursday night, too, in a 27-point effort in the Warriors’ 57-47 victory in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play.

BUCYRUS — A good, well-coached, intense team that will exploit many weaknesses of teams they face. That is how Bucyrus boys basketball coach Justin Mattix described the boys basketball team at his alma matter.

VANDALIA — Noah Clary finished second and Connor Johnston was third to lead Upper Sandusky to a fifth-place finish Thursday in the Division II-III standings of the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament at Vandalia Butler.

CAREY — After eight minutes, Carey found itself battling an upstart Buckeye Central squad. The Blue Devils then locked down on defense and did not allow a field goal for almost 11 minutes of game time. Offensively, Cody Luzader led three Carey players in double digits with 17 points as the Blue Devils cruised to a 72-57 Northern 10 Athletic Conference win over the Bucks on Thursday.

RICHWOOD — North Union used a balanced scoring attack to take a 69-46 victory against Riverdale in a nonconference boys basketball game Thursday night. Led by Mason Soviak’s 18 points, seven different players for the Wildcats scored at least 6 points.

CAREY — Trinity United Church of Christ of McCutchenville won the first two games, 9-4 and 7-1, before dropping a 3-2 decision to Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God in Wyandot County Church Dartball action Thursday.
