ROSSFORD — Upper Sandusky and Rossford entered Wednesday night’s match with identical records in similarly challenging volleyball leagues. The difference in the Division II sectional semifinal was the Bulldogs’ Megan Dunne. The junior powered 27 kills and added six aces to help No. 6 seed Rossford hold off the No. 9 Rams, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-3.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — After taking advantage of two free kicks, top-seeded Riverdale carried a 2-0 lead into halftime and built on it in the second half, taking down No. 8 Allen East 7-0 in a Division III sectional final girls soccer contest Wednesday night.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The seeders acknowledged Riverdale’s tough boys soccer schedule with a home sectional game. Visiting Mansfield St. Peter’s proved the Falcons still have some things to learn.

BUCYRUS — Wynford High School will honor all area veterans and first responders by granting them free admission to the football game against Upper Sandusky at 7 p.m. Friday. Any veteran or first responder who provides their credentials will be admitted free at the pass gate.

Lincoln Hills Golf Club won back the Stone Hill Cup with a 14.5-13.5 victory against Stone Crossing Golf Course in an annual Ryder Cup-style competition. Play was highlighted by a pair of holes-in-one.

NEW WASHINGTON — Mohawk rolled to a 50-8 victory against Buckeye Central in a junior high football game Tuesday. Collin Barth rushed for three touchdowns, returned a fumble for a touchdown and recovered another fumble to lead the Warriors.

The Cardinals clinched the Midget League Football championship with a 26-0 victory against the Packers this weekend. Offensively for the Cardinals: Gavin Frey, 6 carries for 112 yards, 2 TDs, 1 completion for 16 yards; Ethan Hill, 5 carries for 74 yards, 2 TDs; Levi Yeater, 6 carries for 14 yards, 2-point conversion; Justin Heilman, 2 carries for 5 yards; Micah Shasteen, 1 reception for 16 yards.

Youth leagues are forming for play at Wyandot Lanes. Bumper, elementary and junior high leagues begin Oct. 28.

MONROEVILLE — Wynford’s volleyball season came to an end with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 loss Monday night at Monroeville in a Division IV sectional semifinal match. Lainey Holman led the No. 11 seed Royals (6-17) with six kills, 10 digs, 13 serve receptions and four blocks.

CAREY — The Carey Blue Devils dominated the Riverdale Falcons in Division IV first round tournament volleyball action Monday night. Carey never trailed in the match, beating the Falcons, 25-6, 25-9, 25-13. The Blue Devils (20-3) built big leads to start each set, allowing coach Eric Vackert to get a lot of players into the match. Many of those players made big contributions.
