Early lead carries Rams past Flashes

Even when it seemed like nothing was going the Rams’ way, their lead was substantial enough to hold on. Upper Sandusky may have set a record for number of fouls committed in a boys basketball game, but key free throws by the Rams and timely misses down the stretch by Willard helped the Rams secure their 60-49 victory over Willard on Friday at Upper Sandusky High School.

New Reigel holds off Mohawk in 4th quarter

NEW RIEGEL — Mohawk coach Paul Dunn said his team was just not ready. The Warriors had chances at the end, but New Riegel made just enough plays and grabbed timely rebounds to take a 59-51 non-league opening-night win over the Warriors on Friday.

Carey holds off Old Fort’s rally in 4th quarter, takes 47-43 win

CAREY — Down 13 in the fourth quarter, Old Fort made it close in the end, but Carey held on for a 47-43 victory in a non-conference girls basketball game Thursday night. Amber Nash hit a pair of free throws with 5:27 remaining to give the Blue Devils a 43-30 advantage, but the Stockaders went on a 9-0 run in just a minute’s time to make it interesting.

Upper girls get wins over BC

NEW WASHINGTON — Upper Sandusky’s eighth grade girls basketball team held off Buckeye Central, 35-29, on Thursday. Madison Byrum led the Rams with 15 points, while Ruth Baldwin scored 7 points.

USHS graduate earns All-MVC 1st-team honor

VALPARAISO, Ind. — Valparaiso University volleyball senior Taylor Graboski recently was named a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference volleyball selection and to the MVC all-tournament team. Graboski led the Crusaders with 325 kills and a .260 hitting percentage and finished one block shy of the team lead with 106.
