CANTON — All spring, summer, fall and winter, Upper Sandusky junior Abbey Wenger trained and prepared to not only qualify for the 2018 Swimming and Diving Championships, but for the finals or consolation finals on Friday. Soon after the girls 100 breaststroke was finished Thursday at the 2018 Swimming and Diving Championships, Wenger heard her name announced in 16th place.

Upper Sandusky’s Jevon Dible and Jeff Winslow took the top honors on the Division III All-District 6 boys basketball team as player and coach of the year, respectively. Dible, a senior guard, leads the Rams in scoring at 14.7 points per game, rebounding at 6.5 rebounds per game, assists at 4.0 per game and steals at 2.5 per game.

Upper Sandusky’s Abigail Fogle, Carey’s Sydney Kin and Riverdale’s Lexie Wright all were first-team All-District 6 selections in a release of honors Thursday. Fogle, a senior guard, was honored in Division II.

Riverdale’s Lexie Wright was a second-team pick and Reygan Frey was a third-team pick to the All-Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball teams. Wright, a senior forward, ranks in the top six in multiple statistics in the BVC, including scoring (16.5), rebounds (10.3) and steals (3.3).

St. Paul Lutheran Church 2 wrapped up the regular season championship by beating St. Paul Lutheran Church 1, 5-4 and 4-2 before taking an 8-2 loss Thursday in Wyandot County Church Dartball play.

The third annual Cory Washburn Memorial Wrestling Tournament is March 18 at Upper Sandusky Middle School, 390 W. Walker St., Upper Sandusky. Proceeds benefit the USMS eighth grade class trip to Washington, D.C.

BASCOM — Any team that faces the New Riegel girls basketball team is tasked with finding a way to slow down senior Brianna Gillig. Gillig is the all-time leading scorer in the New Riegel girls basketball team’s program history and surpassed the 1,000 point career mark last season.

Upper Sandusky Middle School will host a spring sports parent meeting for track and field athletes at 6 p.m. Feb. 27. Girls will meet in the auditorium, and boys will meet in Jeff Fett’s art room No. 119.

Upper Sandusky fastpitch softball signups for girls currently in kindergarten through eighth grade are being held the next two weeks at the Upper Sandusky Fire Department. Signup dates are 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, 6-8 p.m. Feb. 26, and 11 a.m. to noon March 3.
