Short-handed Warriors finish 3-2 at Mohawk Duals

SYCAMORE — With several wrestlers missing due to injuries, it was no mystery what the goals of the Mohawk wrestling team were entering the Mohawk duals on Saturday at Mohawk High School. “We got a lot injuries this week during practice, and our goal is to get through there healthy, wrestle well, get our young guys some experience,” Mohawk wrestling coach Nate Lofay said.

Eagles hand Royals 1st loss

BUCYRUS — Colonel Crawford jumped all over Wynford early to hand the Royals their first loss of the season, 76-45, in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball action Saturday night. The Eagles (4-1, 3-0 N10) led 27-9 after one quarter and 48-18 at halftime.

Bucyrus remains undefeated

BUCYRUS — Bucyrus used a big first quarter to take a 48-32 victory against Mohawk in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Saturday afternoon. The unbeaten Redmen (5-0, 2-0 N10) led 17-6 after one quarter and 31-15 at halftime before the teams played an even second half.

Royals hang tough but fall to Devils

BUCYRUS — Wynford hung close throughout the game, but Carey held on for a 54-49 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Saturday. Amber Nash led the Blue Devils (6-1, 3-1 N10) with 13 points, while Destiny DeFeo had 9.

Wildcats roll with 22-0 1st quarter

MOUNT BLANCHARD —With his team playing its third game in five days, Kenton coach Matt McCullough was worried the Wildcats might be getting a bit weary when the Wildcats traveled to Riverdale on Saturday night. The Wildcat mentor had nothing to be worried about as the Wildcats forced the Falcons into eight first-quarter turnovers and scored the first 20 points of the game on the way to a 74-43 non-league victory.

Slow start dooms Riverdale again

KENTON — Slow starts to games have been Riverdale’s bugaboo so far this season and another one came back to haunt the Lady Falcons on Saturday afternoon against Kenton. The Lady Wildcats forced the Falcons into the 11 first quarter turnovers in jumping ahead 23-2 after eight minutes.

Upper swim teams win in Fremont

FREMONT — Upper Sandusky’s boys and girls swimming teams both won the championship Saturday in the 16-school St. Joseph Central Catholic Streak Invitational at Fremont Ross. “Our entire week was spent focusing on attention to detail and discussing how better practice means better performance,” Upper Sandusky coach Justin Richardson said.

Summit helps Carey top Upper

CAREY — With Upper Sandusky starting to take control down the stretch, Carey needed someone to step up. Griffin Summit did, scoring 9 of his 18 points in the final five and a half minutes to help the Blue Devils hand the Rams their first Northern 10 Athletic Conference loss in more than two seasons, 71-70.

Pandora-Gilboa overwhelms Riverdale

MOUNT BLANCHARD — It didn't take the Riverdale boys basketball team long to figure out why Pandora-Gilboa leads the Blanchard Valley Conference in points per game, rebounds per game and allows the second-fewest points per game in the conference.
