The Carey baseball team never lost hope. Trailing by one run in the top of the seventh inning, the Blue Devils erased the deficit by scoring six runs on four hits to take a five-run lead into the bottom of the inning.

KENTON — Alivia Oney did her best to give Upper Sandusky a chance, but it was not enough in a 5-2 season-opening softball loss to Kenton on Monday at Kenton. Oney hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and did not give up an earned run in the pitching circle, but five errors doomed the Rams (0-1).

Upper Sandusky swept singles matches and opened the boys tennis season with a 4-1 victory Monday against Kenton. Clay Burger took a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Andrew Boyer in the No. 1 singles match, while Levi Malone downed Cruz Bryant, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles match.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Blayc Hacker had an impactful debut for the Carey softball team on Monday. The Upper Sandusky transfer had three extra-base hits, scored three runs and had five RBIs as the Blue Devils topped Riverdale, 16-2, in five innings.

ATTICA — Mohawk’s boys and girls both were second to host Seneca East in a season-opening track and field tri-meet Monday. The Tigers girls edged the Warriors, 69.5-60.5, with Tiffin Calvert taking third with 38 points.

RAWSON — Tess Weinandy and MaKenna Hurley both homered, doubled, singled, scored three runs and had four RBIs to lead Mohawk’s 27-2 rout of Cory-Rawson to open the softball season Monday. The Warriors (1-0) scored eight times in the first inning, eight more times in the third inning and 11 times in the fourth inning.

RAWSON — Parker Brown had four hits as Mohawk pulled away late for a 16-2 victory against Cory-Rawson to open the baseball season Monday. The Warriors (1-0) took a 6-0 lead with three runs each in the first and third innings.

DELAWARE — Buckeye Valley scored twice in the first inning and six times in the third inning of an 8-0 victory against Wynford in a nonconference baseball game Monday. Hunter Moffatt struck out eight in five innings in the win for the Barons, giving up just three hits with no walks Landon Alexander pitching the final two innings, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.
