CAREY — Near the end of the third quarter of the Division IV sectional semifinal between the New Riegel and Riverdale boys basketball teams, it appeared the result could be similar to the first meeting between the Blue Jackets and Falcons, a one-point New Riegel victory.

TIFFIN — The Wyandot County Indians won the Area 5 championship in the Special Olympics basketball tournament with a 52-46 victory against the Crawford County Chargers on Saturday at the Seneca County School of Opportunity.

Riverdale’s Alec Loveridge earned third-team honors, while Coby Miller and Brock Davis were given honorable mention on the All-Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball team. Loveridge, a junior, averaged 12.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game through the first 21 games.

The Upper Sandusky boys basketball sectional final game at 6 p.m. Friday at Shelby is a split session. The gym will be cleared after the game in order to make room for fans watching the second game.

Upper Sandusky Middle School will host a spring sports parent meeting for track and field athletes at 6 p.m. today. Girls will meet in the auditorium, and boys will meet in Jeff Fett’s art room No. 119.

BUCYRUS — The Bucyrus Softball Association will have a meeting for co-ed and men’s league for the upcoming summer at 7 p.m. March 12 in city hall council chambers in Bucyrus. Anyone planning on having a team this year should plan on attending.

FINDLAY — Carey learned the hard way last year what can happen if you let a team hang around. The Blue Devils made sure that did not happen again.

BASCOM — The Riverdale girls basketball season was ended Saturday night in a sectional final game against Arlington at Hopewell-Loudon High School. The Falcons could not get anything going offensively, failing to hit double digits in any quarter en route to a one-sided 49-26 defeat.
