Upper Sandusky senior Matt McLane signed his national letter of intent on Monday to play soccer at Baldwin Wallace University. “I’m extremely excited to be able to continue playing soccer in college,” McLane said.

Russell Hall did not expect to ever be a head coach when he was hired as an assistant at Upper Sandusky for the 2008 season, but 10 years later, he is. Hall was hired to lead the Rams during Monday night’s Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools Board meeting.

Rams spoil Mattix’s return to USHS

UPPER — Bucyrus boys basketball coach Justin Mattix has many memories at Upper Sandusky High School. The 2012 USHS graduate played on the boys junior varsity basketball team as a freshman and sophomore and on the varsity basketball team as a junior and senior under coach Shane Adams.

Jenkins helps Mohawk hold off SE

SYCAMORE — Seneca East was determined not to let Mohawk leading scorer Zach Hayman beat them. So instead Keith Jenkins did, scoring 13 of his 21 points in a momentum-changing third quarter in the Warriors’ 60-54 victory in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball action Saturday night.

Upper Sandusky gets No. 1 seed

Upper Sandusky earned the top seed and a bye into the sectional final in the Division III Norwalk district tournament draw held Sunday. No. 8 seed Huron (5-11) and No. 12 Fostoria (3-14) meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at Shelby, with the winner getting the Rams (16-3) at 6 p.m. March 2 at Shelby.

BC upsets Carey

NEW WASHINGTON — After a big second quarter, Carey went cold in the second half and was knocked off, 53-47, by Buckeye Central on Saturday night in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball action. The Blue Devils (12-6, 7-6 N10) scored 23 points in the second quarter to take a 31-24 halftime lead, but they managed only 16 points in the second half.

Bluffton gets win

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Bluffton rallied past Riverdale in the fourth quarter to take a 51-45 victory in a nonconference boys basketball game Saturday night. The Falcons (4-16) came back from a slow start, trailing 15-5 after one quarter, to get within 24-21 at halftime and then taking a 34-32 lead after three quarters.
