Red Devils’ defense overwhelms Falcons

BASCOM — The Riverdale girls basketball season was ended Saturday night in a sectional final game against Arlington at Hopewell-Loudon High School. The Falcons could not get anything going offensively, failing to hit double digits in any quarter en route to a one-sided 49-26 defeat.

Upper tops Lex for sectional title

BUCYRUS — Anytime the Upper Sandusky girls basketball team has desperately needed a basket, one player, senior guard Abigail Fogle, has stepped up time and time again. After a floater by Lexington sophomore guard Gabby Stover brought the Minutemen within two points in the third quarter, Megan Hensel buried a deep 3-pointer from well beyond the top of the key and Abigail Fogle followed by hitting three of her seven 3-pointers the rest of the third quarter.

Polar Bears force 33 TOs, beat Royals

LEXINGTON — When the Margaretta girls basketball team forced turnovers in their zone and man-to-man press with trapping and man-to-man defense in the half court, defense often led to offense. The Polar Bears (15-3) forced 33 turnovers and scored 25 points off of turnovers in a 57-33 victory over Wynford on Saturday in the Division III sectional final at Lexington High School.

Upper advances 10 to districts

CLYDE — Upper Sandusky advanced 10 wrestlers to district competition and placed second in Division II sectional action Saturday at Clyde. The Rams were topped by Clyde, 180.5-165.5, for first place, with Tiffin Columbian third with 147.5 points.

Mohawk finishes 2nd at Van Buren

VAN BUREN — Mohawk advanced eight wrestlers to districts and finished second Saturday in Division III sectional wrestling action at Van Buren. Elmwood topped Mohawk, 187.5-166, with Van Buren third with 134 points.

NORTH ROBINSON — With Upper Sandusky leading by three late in the game Friday night, Jevon Dible was not about to just sit back and wait for Colonel Crawford to force the action. Dible attacked the basket for a layup to give his team a two-possession lead for two of his game-high 21 points, and the Rams held off the Eagles, 62-55, in North Robinson to capture their third straight Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball championship.

Luzader helps Carey hold off Seneca East

Finishing strong

CAREY — Seneca East gave the Carey boys basketball team a late scare Friday night, but the Tigers fourth quarter rally fell just short in the final game of the regular season for both Northern 10 Athletic Conference squads. The Blue Devils’ lead was cut to just two points with less than a minute remaining, but clutch free throws and timely forced turnovers allowed Carey to secure a 47-41 victory.
