The Upper Sandusky Middle School wrestling team recently held an awards banquet at The Village Restaurant. Northern 10 Athletic Conference champions honored were Cameron Vince, 122 pounds; Lane Montgomery, 128; Karson Alban, 134; Aiden Gallant, 142; Braxton Johnson, 150; and Carson Vanhorn, 172.

Wildcats top Rams, 6-3 in opener

Season debut featured

KENTON — Leading by one, Kenton scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held off Upper Sandusky, 6-3, in a nonconference baseball season opener Monday at Kenton. After the Rams (0-1) scored a run in the first inning, the Wildcats evened the game with one in the second and then took the lead with a two-run third inning.

Oney’s efforts not enough in Upper loss

KENTON — Alivia Oney did her best to give Upper Sandusky a chance, but it was not enough in a 5-2 season-opening softball loss to Kenton on Monday at Kenton. Oney hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and did not give up an earned run in the pitching circle, but five errors doomed the Rams (0-1).

Hacker excels in Carey debut

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Blayc Hacker had an impactful debut for the Carey softball team on Monday. The Upper Sandusky transfer had three extra-base hits, scored three runs and had five RBIs as the Blue Devils topped Riverdale, 16-2, in five innings.

Warriors rout Hornets

RAWSON — Tess Weinandy and MaKenna Hurley both homered, doubled, singled, scored three runs and had four RBIs to lead Mohawk’s 27-2 rout of Cory-Rawson to open the softball season Monday. The Warriors (1-0) scored eight times in the first inning, eight more times in the third inning and 11 times in the fourth inning.
