OLD FORT — Jaidyn Thiel tied the school record with seven goals in a 10-2 Upper Sandusky victory Thursday in a nonconference boys soccer match at Old Fort.

ADA — Jackson Clark’s unassisted goal was enough as the Riverdale boys soccer team took a 1-0 North Central Ohio Soccer Association victory against Ada on Thursday.

BUCYRUS — Jodi Smalley won a three-hour match to give Upper Sandusky a 3-2 tennis win against Bucyrus on Thursday.

FOSTORIA — Meet the Candidates will be held from the counties of Wood, Wyandot, Seneca, Sandusky and Hancock Saturday at 1675 N. Union St., Fostoria. Candidates for offices include judges, Hancock County commissioners, county auditors, Ohio House 3rd District representative and Fourth District Congressional representative.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale scored a pair of early goals and then pulled away in the second half for a 6-0 victory against Ada on Wednesday. Hanna Breidenbach assisted a Danielle Searfoss goal only 4:50 into the match.

River Valley slipped past Upper Sandusky, 3-2, in a girls tennis match Wednesday. The Rams got a win from No. 1 singles player Jodi Smalley, who defeated Bailey Shuff, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

Wyandot County competed in the Special Olympics state unified golf tournament recently. Nancy Johnson and Tyler Counts earned the gold medal in their division with a 38.

Wynford’s Abby Underwood was named the player of the year on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls golf team released recently. Underwood, a senior, led the league in adjusted scoring average at 50.58 strokes per nine holes, finishing more than a stroke per nine holes better than teammate Caity Schiefer, who finished second in average.

VAN BUREN — The Riverdale volleyball team kept it close in the second and third sets, but dropped a three-set match to Van Buren 25-9, 25-19, 25-16 on Wednesday at Van Buren High School. Hannah Galkiewicz recorded two aces, Grace Wetherill had three kills and two blocks, Tayler Ashburn finished with one ace, seven kills and two digs, Hannah Vaughan finished with six digs and Tayler Yoder finished with 13 assists and four digs.

CAREY — Even with two players playing in positions they don’t normally play — McKenzie Row in the middle and the Blue Devils’ libero at outside hitter — the Carey volleyball team still found a way to notch its second consecutive victory.
