Mohawk’s Zach Hayman and Paul Dunn took top honors as player and coach of the year, respectively, on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball teams released Monday. Hayman was joined on the first team locally by teammate Chris Klopp, Carey’s Hayden Stone, Upper Sandusky’s Mason Vent and Wynford’s Josh Crall.

Either two-time defending champion Don McLaughlin or Roger Ball will earn a spot in the finals of the Wyandot Match Game Invitational bowling tournament at Wyandot Lanes. McLaughlin was a 686-536 winner over Jim Stansbery, while Ball defeated Dave Ross 730-703 in the semifinals of the winner’s bracket Sunday.

COLUMBUS — Carey junior Tanner May wanted a takedown for the lead and the state title. But Bluffton senior Deandre Nassar was ready. Trailing by two points in the third period, May got an escape and trailed by one point with 1:52 remaining.

The ball stopped going into the basket, and Willard began to pull further and further ahead as frustration mounted for Upper Sandusky on Saturday afternoon. The cold-shooting Rams simply could not keep up with the Crimson Flashes in a season-ending 60-36 loss in the Division III district final Saturday at Norwalk.

COLUMBUS — Carey junior Tanner May leaped in the arms of his coach Ryan Pratt, who carried him about 20-celebratory feet. Pratt also leaped in the air and bumped shoulders with Carey assistant wrestling coach Matt Lawrence, who high-fived Pratt as well.

COLUMBUS — Heading into the 2019 state tournament, Carey junior Tanner May’s goal was to finish higher than the fifth-place finish he had last season. He is already one step closer to achieving that goal.

COLUMBUS — Mohawk wrestling coach Nate Lofay said Morgan Price’s Division III consolations match against Greeneview’s Devan Hendricks was one of the best matches Price has ever wrestled. It still wasn’t enough to continue his stay at the 2019 state tournament Thursday at the Schottenstein Center.

Mohawk’s Zach Hayman and Wynford’s Josh Crall earned first-team All-Northwest District boys basketball honors Thursday evening. Crall was selected in Division III, while Hayman was an honoree in Division IV. A 6-foot junior guard, Crall finished the season as not only the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s leading scorer but the top scorer across all of Division III in northwest Ohio at 26.5 points per game.

Wynford’s Olivia Grove was a second-team selection in Division IV, while Upper Sandusky’s Alexis Fogle was a third-team pick in Division II to lead area All-Northwest District girls basketball picks Thursday. Grove, a 5-foot-10 senior forward, led the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in blocks at 1.6 per game, was second in rebounds at 9.7 per game and also ranked among the league leaders in points (11.3), steals (3.0) and field goal percentage (43.0).
