BUCYRUS — Wynford blew open a close game with a big fifth inning to pick up its first baseball win of the season, 13-3, in five innings over River Valley on Monday. The Royals (1-1) scored twice in the first inning and twice more in the third to go up 4-1.

BUCYRUS — River Valley had a pair of big innings and beat Wynford 11-1 in a nonconference softball game Monday at Wynford. The Vikings (1-0) scored four times in the second inning and then blew the game open with a seven-run third inning. Wynford (0-3) had only two hits, both of them with two outs in the fourth inning to score its only run.

CAREY — Winless last season, Riverdale softball hung tough against a strong softball program, Carey, in a 6-2 Blue Devils victory to begin the season for both teams Monday at Water Works Park. The Falcons (0-1) answered two runs scored by the Blue Devils (1-0) with two of their own in the third inning. Carey scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the sixth inning.

KENTON — Upper Sandusky began the boys tennis season with a 4-1 victory against Kenton on Monday at Kenton. “It was good to get win No. 1,” Upper Sandusky coach Aaron Frazee said.

Alexis Fogle took a year off from softball as a junior but she made a quick impact as a senior, hitting an inside-the-park grand slam to help Upper Sandusky softball roll past Kenton 12-1 in a nonconference softball game Monday at Upper Sandusky.

Brenyn Marquart threw a one-hitter to lead Upper Sandusky to a 6-1 victory against Bellevue to open the baseball season Saturday. “The boys played at midseason form today,” Upper Sandusky coach Scott Emerick said. “We got a stellar outing by senior Brenyn Marquart and some outstanding plays by our defense, mixed in with some clutch hitting.”

ATTICA — Addystin Lykins was involved in three first-place finishes to help Carey’s girls take second place Saturday in the season-opening Seneca East Tiger Invitational track and field meet. Individually, Lykins won the 400 dash in 1:03.00. She also was part of two winning relays. Karli Rigby, Ellison Roark, Abby Allison and Lykins won the 800 relay in 1:54.08 and the 1600 relay in 4:32.51.

BELLEVUE — Upper Sandusky dropped both games of a challenging season-opening softball double header, 5-2 and 7-3, on Saturday at Bellevue. The Redmen (2-0) scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the fifth inning of the opener, while the Rams (0-2) scored both of their runs in the sixth inning.

ONTARIO — Ontario used a 10-run fourth inning to put away Wynford in a season-opening baseball game Saturday at Ontario. The Royals (0-1) took a 1-0 lead after one inning but gave up two runs in the second inning and then three more in the third inning before the 10-run outburst by the Warriors (1-0).

WILLARD — Wynford was outhit just 22-19 but dropped 4-0 and 11-6 decisions in its season-opening softball series Saturday at Willard. The Royals (0-2) were shut out despite seven hits in the first game and smashed 12 hits in the second game.
