TIFFIN — Tiffin Columbian swept Upper Sandusky, 25-10, 25-18, 25-21, in a nonconference volleyball match Saturday. Emily Davis had 11 kills, Rylie Roggow finished with eight, and Addie Conti had five for the Tornadoes (4-0).

CALEDONIA — By no means has it been a normal week for Upper Sandusky’s football team. Cases of hand, foot and mouth disease among some Rams’ players prompted the cancellation of their final scrimmage last week against Fostoria leaving not a lot of preparation time for River Valley.

Long TD pass catapults Carey

CAREY — For much of the first half, Carey had plenty of offense but nothing to show for it. That changed in one play. Griffin Summit caught a 79-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Berringer on the final play of the first half to finally get the Blue Devils on the board, and their offense rolled from there, taking a 35-16 victory against Van Buren on Friday night at C.D. Wentling Field.

But after the Wynford football team turned it over on downs to give Liberty-Benton possession on its own five-yard line with 10:03 remaining in the contest and the Royals trailing by five points, Benedict seized the opportunity.

Arlington runs away from Riverdale in 2nd half of 40-7 victory

ARLINGTON — A close game at halftime turned into a blowout as Riverdale lost its football season opener at Arlington on Friday. Trailing by just 7 points at the half, Riverdale’s offense was shut down by an opportunistic Arlington defense, which intercepted Riverdale quarterback Alec Loveridge four times in the game and forced five turnovers overall.

Grothaus’ career-best 40 leads Carey past Wynford

CAREY — Dylan Grothaus shot a career-best 40 to lead Carey to a 174-191 victory against Wynford in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf action Thursday at Bob’s Countryside Golf Course. Grothaus eagled No. 5, with Ethan Tanner doing the same and shooting a 42. Kole Phillips and Carter Frederick both finished with 46s.
