BUCYRUS — The Wynford boys basketball team played with high intensity early on senior night, but Upper Sandusky finished strong in every quarter to play spoiler and close out the regular season with a 62-44 victory over the Royals in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference game on Friday at Wynford.

CAREY — Carey junior center Hayden Stone’s free throws weren’t falling. But his layups, jumpers and putbacks were. Although he was 2 of 8 from the free-throw line, Stone scored 32 points, including 13 in the second quarter, to help the Carey boys basketball team erase an early six-point deficit to overwhelm the Bucyrus Redmen 79-57 on Friday at Carey High School.

Mohawk advances 6 to sectional semifinals

VAN BUREN — Mohawk advanced six wrestlers, Carey four and Riverdale three into the semifinals on the first day of Division III sectional wrestling Friday evening at Van Buren. The Warriors’ Caden Gurney (132 pounds), Morgan Price (145), Austin England (152), Grant Theis (170), Kaleb Leeth (182) and James Clouse (220) all reached the semifinals, assuring them of placing at least sixth in the tournament.

CANTON — Upper Sandusky senior Abbey Wenger’s high school swimming career may have ended sooner than she wanted, but she will look back on becoming the first two-time state qualifier in her coach’s tenure, providing mentorship for the first-time state qualifiers and nearly making it to the finals in her last competition.

Hard work has helped Brenyn Marquart realize his dream. The Upper Sandusky High School senior hit the weight room hard, increased his pitching velocity significantly and Thursday earned an opportunity to sign to play baseball at Tiffin University.

Upper 6th grade girls win COBA title

Central Ohio Basketball 6th grade champs

The sixth grade Upper Sandusky girls basketball team recently participated in the Central Ohio Basketball Association Tournament held over two weekends with 22 schools in its division. The girls won all three games in pool play against Teays Valley, Hilliard Bradley and Pickerington, earning them a No. 1 seed and a first round bye heading into elimination games.

St. Paul 2 wins regular season championship

One win was enough for St. Paul Lutheran Lutheran Church 2 to finish as the regular season champion in the Wyandot County Dartball League. St. Paul 2 won the opener 5-4 and dropped the next two games 6-0 and 1-0 on Thursday but finished a game ahead of Trinity United Church of Christ of McCutchenville, which also went 1-2 in the final week.
