Rams win first league title in 25 years

BUCYRUS — With their sights set on their first conference title in 25 years, the Upper Sandusky baseball team wasted little time at Bucyrus on Tuesday. The Rams scored three runs in the first inning and 10 in the second on the way to a 15-0 run-rule victory over the Bucyrus in five innings. With the victory, the Rams clinched a share of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference title.

BUCYRUS — The Upper Sandusky boys tennis team ended its regular season with a 5-0 victory at Bucyrus on Tuesday. The Rams’ Levi Malone was a 6-4, 6-2 winner in the No. 1 singles match against Kyle Hamm, and in the No. 2 match, it was Landon-Cotto Ramos getting a win for the Rams (11-4) by beating Karsen Kimmel 6-2, 6-0. Justin Blackburn cruised in the No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-2 over John Bell.

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky scored in all but the first inning on its way to a 10-0 victory against Wynford in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Tuesday at Wynford. The Rams (15-6, 12-2 N10) led 3-0 after the second inning and 7-0 after the third inning, then scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Wynford’s Noah Smith leans back to fire a pitch against Northmor on Tuesday at Wynford. The senior gave up no earned runs on just four hits with eight strikeouts on the Royals’ senior night 11-3 victory that ended a nine-game losing streak.

CAREY — Carey scored eight times in the first inning and ran away with a 16-6 victory against Ridgedale in six innings in Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball play Tuesday at Waterworks Park. The Rockets (11-8, 4-8 N10) matched the Blue Devils (17-5, 11-3 N10) in most of the innings after that, but Carey was able to finally reach the run rule with two tallies in the fifth inning and another in the sixth.

Errors cost Carey in loss to Ridgedale

MORRAL — Ridgedale had only two more hits than Carey but four errors led to seven unearned runs for Ridgedale in a 7-0 victory in Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball play Tuesday at Memorial Park. The Rockets (13-6, 8-6 N10) scored a run in the second inning, three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Messmer leads Royals past Bulldogs

CRESTLINE — Pitcher Hannah Messmer proved Monday she not only can help Wynford win games in the circle, she can also help it win in the batter’s box. Messmer had an RBI sacrifice bunt and an RBI single as the No. 9 seed Royals knocked off No. 7 Crestline 7-4 in a Division IV sectional semifinal softball game at Gates Brown Field at Crestline.

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 12-1 victory against Wynford in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game Monday at Wynford. Jason Holly (5-0) fired a one-hitter and struck out 13 while issuing two walks. He gave up an unearned run in the fifth inning.

Carey’s 7 errors help Bucyrus run away late for a 15-5 victory

BUCYRUS — Carey errors helped Bucyrus blow open a close game as the Redmen maintained control of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball lead with a 15-5 victory in six innings Monday at Bucyrus. The Blue Devils (16-5, 10-3 N10) erased most of an early 5-0 deficit, getting to within 6-5 when they gave up seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bucyrus (15-5, 12-1 N10) scored twice more in the sixth inning to end it.
