CONTINENTAL — Six different players scored as Riverdale’s girls soccer team defeated Continental, 6-2, on Saturday. Lexie Wright, Katie Benitez, Ashlyn Fadley, Faith Williams, Alex Rothlisberger and Brooke McKamey had goals for the Falcons (2-0).

ATTICA — Mohawk’s Anna Stillberber was eighth to lead local runners Saturday in the Tiger Classic at Seneca East. Mohawk’s girls took sixth place in the White Division with 157 points, while Wynford was 11th with 258 points.

WILLARD — Sisters Jodi Smalley and Mara Smalley took the No. 4 doubles championship to help Upper Sandusky finish in fourth place Saturday in the Willard Doubles Invitational. The Smalleys routed a team from Bucyrus in the first round, 6-1, 6-0, and followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Norwalk to reach the finals where they topped Willard, 6-4, 6-4.

CALEDONIA — When a team has size up front, it’s a good bet that it will run the football. And that is exactly what River Valley did Friday night against Upper Sandusky.

BUCYRUS — Liberty-Benton has had Wynford’s number in the teams’ last three contests. Not this time around, as the Royals broke open a 14-14 tie by scoring four unanswered possessions in the second half to close the game with a dominating 41-14 victory against the visiting Eagles in a nonconference tilt Friday.

WAYNESFIELD — Riverdale made the trip to Waynesfield-Goshen on Friday night and trounced the Tigers in a game that only lasted one half.

CAREY — McComb looked the part of a state final four team in its season opener at Carey on Friday night. And the Blue Devils looked like a team trying to bounce back from its first losing season in 10 years.

It’s official. The Northern 10 Athletic Conference is an open race in volleyball. Carey made its claim as a front-runner Thursday, knocking off defending champion Upper Sandusky in three sets, 25-21, 25-10, 25-17. It was the Rams’ first N10 volleyball loss.

BUCYRUS — Carson Weinandy shot a 40 to earn medalist honors and lead Mohawk to a 170-213 victory against Wynford in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference golf match Thursday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus. Chet Margraf and Billy Dunlap both finished with 41s, and Nathan Kimmet scored a 48 for the Warriors (3-0, 3-0 N10).

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Hardin Northern had to overcome substantial deficits in each of the last two sets to grab a non-conference volleyball sweep of Riverdale on Thursday. The Polar Bears trailed 20-13 in the second set and 21-16 in the third set before rallying in both for a 25-15, 27-25, 25-22 victory.
