Sydney Swavel’s eyes lit up in the bottom of the sixth inning when she saw “a meatball, straight down the middle.” The junior drove the fat pitch over the left field fence for her fifth home run of the season, giving the Upper Sandusky softball team a 5-4 lead over Tiffin Columbian in a non-league game Friday.

ELMWOOD — Upper Sandusky’s girls were second-place finishers in the John Ramsey Invitational at Elmwood on Friday. Van Buren edged the Rams, 155.5-150 for first place.

CAREY — Carey baseball won a non-league tuneup against Vanlue on Friday, 18-0, in its last game before tournament play begins Saturday.

BELLEVUE — Wynford won its seventh game in a row Friday, holding off a rally from Bellevue in a non-league baseball contest, 6-5. The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and added three runs in the fifth.

BELLEVUE — Bellevue defeated Upper Sandusky boys tennis, 3-2, Friday. The Rams won both doubles matches.

TIFFIN — Upper Sandusky junior varsity softball defeated Tiffin Columbian, 5-4, on Friday. Jordan Franz was 3 for 4 with two runs, Alivia Oney was 3-4 with two runs, and Allie Kramer was 2 for 3 with a run.

Upper Sandusky junior varsity baseball downed Mohawk, 13-2, in five innings Friday. The Rams allowed a run in the top of the first inning before tying the game in the bottom half and fell behind 2-1 in the second inning.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — In her last home track meet, Aubreah Manns went out in style. The senior helped Riverdale win four events in Thursday’s Riverdale Relays, and the Falcons girls topped Carey for first place, 130-120.

NEW WASHINGTON — Mohawk softball pounded out 20 hits and won its sixth straight game, 10-0, at Buckeye Central on Thursday. The Warriors (13-7, 8-6 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) held just a 1-0 lead when they broke open the game with a five-run fourth inning.

ATTICA — Nate McMillan set a school record in winning the 200 hurdles for Upper Sandusky’s junior high boys track and field team Monday in a quad at Seneca East. McMillan posted a time of 27.8, and the Rams finished second to the host Tigers, 102-74.
