FOSTORIA — Once Arlington took the second set and the momentum, it was not going to be stopped. The Red Devils, ranked fourth in the state in Division IV, came on strong late in the second set and earned their first district championship in school history with a 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 victory against Carey on Thursday night at Fostoria.

Northern 10 Athletic Conference runner-up Mohawk put three senior players on the all-league first team in a release by the conference today.

FINDLAY — There were a few tense moments Wednesday night for the Riverdale girls soccer team in a Division III district semifinal. Bluffton controlled most of the first 20 minutes, but a timely goal by Gabi Rodriguez gave the Falcons a lift. Riverdale scored a pair of late goals in just over a minute and went on to a 4-1 victory.

ATTICA — Losing leading hitter Addie Thiery to a sprained ankle in the third set of Saturday’s sectional final was not enough to stop Mohawk from winning a five-setter to get to districts for the seventh year in a row.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale girls cross country team is entering uncharted territory this weekend. When the Falcons quintet of Juleigha Collier, Kendra Collier, Audrey Leopold, Isabella Renteria and Adrian Digby compete in the Division III regional cross country meet in Tiffin on Saturday, it will be the first time in school history the Riverdale girls have competed as a team in the event.

FOSTORIA — By the end of the match, outside hitter McKenzie Row had a sore shoulder, setter Jenna Smalley had a sprained ankle and coach Eric Vackert was nearly voiceless, but Carey survived and advanced.

LANCASTER — Emery Pahl led Upper Sandusky as it finished its junior high cross country season Saturday in the OHSAA Middle School/Junior High State Meet at Lancaster High School.

The All-Daily Chief-Union team’s top honors match those of the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference golf team. Mohawk’s Dave Myers is coach of the year, while Upper Sandusky freshman Brett Montgomery is player of the year.

SYCAMORE — Playing the last half of the match without leading hitter Addie Thiery, Mohawk had other players step up in a 25-15, 24-26, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11 Division III sectional champion victory against Western Reserve on Saturday.

GALION — Carey’s boys won the district championship, and the girls were runner-up to advance to regional competition Saturday in district cross country action at Amann’s Reservoir Park.
