Wynford’s Zach Hoffman, Caleb Stone and Cole Heinlen and Carey’s Jonathon Racheter were All-Northwest District first-team selections as picked by the media and released Thursday evening. Hoffman was selected as a quarterback, Stone as an offensive lineman, Heinlen as a defensive back and Racheter as a linebacker, all in Division VI.

Carey’s Sydney Kin was named the player of the year, and Mohawk’s Eric Hoover was named the coach of the year to lead the All-Daily Chief-Union volleyball team. Kin, a 6-2 junior middle hitter, led the area in kills with 424 kills and an average of 5.1 kills per set.

Sycamore area resident Duane Walp (right) recently was recognized for 31 years of service during the Tiffin Area Football Officials Association annual dinner. Walp, who is retiring, regularly worked lower level games at Upper Sandusky, Carey and Mohawk.

Wynford took three of the top honors on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference teams and Carey had the other. The Royals’ Zach Hoffman was the offensive player of the year, Jalon Brown was special teams player of the year, and Gabe Helbert was coach of the year. Carey’s Jonathon Racheter was the defensive player of the year.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale junior forward Gabi Rodriguez was named a second-team All-Ohio pick by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association on Sunday. Rodriguez led the 12-5-2 Falcons with 39 points on a team-best 15 goals and nine assists.

FINDLAY — Conference championships, playoff appearances and Wynford football are phrases frequently referenced in close proximity. The Royals suffered their first loss of the 2016 season Friday night at the hands of the Ayersville Pilots, 30-6.
