TIFFIN — Carey took advantage of seven forfeit victories to roll to a 57-15 victory against Calvert in a wrestling dual Tuesday evening in Tiffin. The Blue Devils opened up a 51-0 lead following Will Schafer’s 6-1 win by decision against Austin Jones at 170 pounds.

For the second year in a row, Wynford’s Gabe Helbert and Zach Hoffman took top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union football team. Helbert was named All-DC-U coach of the year for the third straight season, while Hoffman was the back-to-back All-DC-U player of the year.

Mohawk was second, Upper Sandusky was fourth and Riverdale was 10th in the East of Chicago junior high wrestling tournament Saturday at Upper Sandusky Middle School. Highland was the winner with 211.5 points, with Mohawk scoring 124.5 points.

The sixth-grade volleyball team from Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic parish in Upper Sandusky recently finished its season in the Toledo Catholic Youth Organization in second place with an 11-4 record.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — If Wynford were to have a chance getting back in the game Saturday afternoon against Riverdale, it had a golden opportunity when Falcons leading scorer Sydney Holderman went to the bench with three fouls early in the second quarter.

With All-Ohioan Wes Vent out of the lineup for the second straight game, it was up to the team’s other two returning starters to carry Upper Sandusky down the stretch in a close game Saturday night.

McGUFFEY — Riverdale’s Noah Hough and Upper Scioto Valley’s Trevor Dotson matched each other point for point in the paint as both 6-6 players netted 28 during the matchup between the Falcons and Rams on Saturday night.

CAREY — Van Buren jumped ahead of Carey early on its way to a 75-64 victory in a non-league boys basketball victory on Saturday, but by and large, the Blue Devils showed much better than they had the previous night. After shooting 18-of-47 from the field Friday in a 20-point loss to Blanchard Valley Conference middler Riverdale, Carey (0-2) improved to 23 of 51 against a likely BVC title contender Saturday.

FINDLAY — Carey seniors Jonathon Racheter and Jevyn Pratt and freshman Tanner May went undefeated to lead Carey in the season-opening Findlay Trojan Duals on Saturday.

MANSFIELD — Upper Sandusky’s boys were second and the girls third Saturday in the Friendly House Invitational in Mansfield. Lexington was both the boys and girls winner.
