Dunn gets 1st win at alma mater

NEW WASHINGTON — Mohawk built an early lead and held on to defeat Buckeye Central, 46-44, for coach Paul Dunn’s first victory at his alma mater Saturday night in New Washington. The Warriors (1-1, 1-0 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) led 14-7 after one quarter and 28-17 at halftime but did not score in the third quarter, allowing the Bucks (0-3, 0-1 N10) to get within two, 28-26.

Upper ends Carey win streak

The Carey girls basketball team’s 51-game league win streak is no more. Upper Sandusky made sure of it in the last 12 minutes of a 54-42 victory in a packed home gym Friday night. The Rams found momentum to the tune of a 23-6 run to end the game after they trailed 36-31 midway through the third quarter.

Warriors’ rally comes up short

SYCAMORE — Mohawk put together its best half of basketball after the break Friday night, but it was not quite enough as Colonel Crawford held on for a 42-34 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game.

MORRAL — Gretchen Harris scored 26 points, including the game-winning free throw with with 3.9 seconds left to lift Wynford to a come-from-behind 61-60 victory against Ridgedale in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Friday night.

Elseser leads Eagles to win over Falcons

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale was able to slow down Liberty-Benton leading scorer Jensen Hiegel, but it had no answer inside for Caitlin Elseser. The 6-foot-2 freshman had 20 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks as the Eagles pulled away for a 75-53 victory Thursday night in Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball play.

Tong a 1st-team All-American

FINDLAY — Carey High School graduate and current University of Findlay senior Hannah Tong was named an NCAA Division II volleyball first-team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday.
