FINDLAY — Carey’s run to the regional finals last year may have been considered by some a fluke, but there is no denying the Blue Devils have arrived as a small-school softball power after winning their second straight Division IV district championship Saturday.

Carey’s Teresa Gillig and Upper Sandusky’s David Young shared coach-of-the-year honors, and the Blue Devils, Rams and Mohawk combined to take eight of the 12 spots on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball first team released Tuesday.

ATTICA — Seneca East scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Carey, 6-2, in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Monday in Attica.

Mohawk’s Austin Harper and Carey’s Brayden Wentling were named All-District 9 baseball first-team selections Monday. Upper Sandusky’s Jevon Dible, Carey’s Easton Roark, Mohawk’s Wyatt Cook, Wynford’s Caleb Stone and Riverdale’s Trey Miller were second-team honorees.

Maddie McLaughlin hit for the cycle and scored four runs, and Schuster’s Flowers exploded for 12 runs in the first inning of a 26-10 victory over Buffalo Trading in slowpitch softball May 15.

FINDLAY — Carey and Riverdale advanced a slew of competitors to regional competition on the second day of the Division III district meet Saturday at Findlay High School.

FOSTORIA — Deja vu. The fourth-seeded Carey Blue Devils defeated top-seeded Columbus Grove, 7-3, Saturday afternoon at Fostoria High School to capture the 2017 Division IV District title.

MILAN — The ball popped off of Abigail Fogle’s bat, and Alexis Fogle rounded third base. But a perfect throw stopped both the younger Fogle and the Rams rally in their tracks.

SHELBY — Mohawk nearly got a break in the first inning, but instead it was Lucas that took advantage of a second chance. Anna Westfield’s two-run home run put the Cubs up for good, and they went on to win the first softball district championship in school history, 7-1, over the Warriors on Saturday at Shelby.

BUCYRUS — Wynford’s Alizhah Watson won a pair of events to lead area competitors Saturday in the Division III district track and field meet at Bucyrus. Watson was first in the 100 dash in 11.38 and the 200 dash in 22.64.
