Blue Devils batting order shine

CAREY — The top of Carey’s order has hit all season as well as any other. When the rest of the lineup hits the way it did Thursday, the Blue Devils’ offense is nearly impossible to stop. Northern 10 Athletic Conference-leading hitter Brayden Wentling had four hits, including a home run, and the rest of the lineup also was dialed in at the plate in Carey’s 10-5 victory against Wynford.

Mohawk relays, Hoffman, Holman move on

BUCYRUS — Both of Mohawk’s 3200 relays and Wynford’s Seth Hoffman in the shot put and Lainey Holman in the high jump qualified for regionals during the first day of Division III district track and field competition Thursday at Bucyrus.

Riverdale advances 4 on first day of districts

FINDLAY — Riverdale’s Carrol Pauley in the shot put, Taylor Ashburn in the high jump, Taylor Bacon in the pole vault and the boys 3200 relay team all qualified for regionals in a lightning-shortened first day of Division III district track and field competition Thursday at Findlay High School.

Riverdale finishes .500

PANDORA — The Riverdale baseball team closed out its season with a weather-shortened 9-4 victory against Pandora-Gilboa on Thursday to finish at .500 for the first time since the 2010 team went 17-6. Down 4-3, the Falcons (12-12, 5-6 Blanchard Valley Conference) scored six times in the fifth inning on five hits and two errors.

Taylor leads Falcons to win over Rockets

PANDORA — Janessa Taylor had three hits, including a triple, and drove in four runs in her final game to lead Riverdale softball to a 9-5 victory against Pandora-Gilboa in a Blanchard Valley Conference game shortened to five innings by weather.

Carey slugs its way back to district final

FOSTORIA — Carey found the offense that eluded it the night before and is back into the Division IV district final following Wednesday’s 13-7 victory against North Baltimore at Fostoria. The Blue Devils (14-5) smacked 14 hits, built an early lead with a five-run second inning and then answered every comeback try by the No. 2 seed Tigers (19-6).

Offense backs Deats in Calvert victory

CLYDE — The Mohawk baseball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm against one of the top pitchers in the area Wednesday as the Warriors fell to Calvert 13-1 in six innings in the district tournament semi-finals. Mohawk found itself with an early deficit. After collecting two outs to open the game, Wyatt Cook gave up five runs on a wild pitch, a run walked in and an RBI double and single.

New London’s Lane shuts down Wynford again

GALION — Ryan Lane just wouldn’t let Wynford back in the game. The New London pitcher struck out 14 batters to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over the Royals in a Division IV district semifinal Wednesday at Galion. He allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk.

Rams’ Conley, Pack qualify for regionals

DEFIANCE — Upper Sandusky’s Shane Pack and Katie Conley qualified for regionals during the first day of the Division II district track and field meet Wednesday at Defiance. Pack finished third in the boys shot put with a throw of 48-2.5, and Conley was second in the high jump at 5-0.

Falcons win 2 over Redskins

ARCADIA — Riverdale won a continuation of a Blanchard Valley Conference baseball game against Arcadia, 8-3, before taking a second, non-league game against the Redskins, 19-1, on Thursday.
