Slow start dooms Riverdale again

KENTON — Slow starts to games have been Riverdale’s bugaboo so far this season and another one came back to haunt the Lady Falcons on Saturday afternoon against Kenton. The Lady Wildcats forced the Falcons into the 11 first quarter turnovers in jumping ahead 23-2 after eight minutes.

Upper swim teams win in Fremont

FREMONT — Upper Sandusky’s boys and girls swimming teams both won the championship Saturday in the 16-school St. Joseph Central Catholic Streak Invitational at Fremont Ross. “Our entire week was spent focusing on attention to detail and discussing how better practice means better performance,” Upper Sandusky coach Justin Richardson said.

Summit helps Carey top Upper

CAREY — With Upper Sandusky starting to take control down the stretch, Carey needed someone to step up. Griffin Summit did, scoring 9 of his 18 points in the final five and a half minutes to help the Blue Devils hand the Rams their first Northern 10 Athletic Conference loss in more than two seasons, 71-70.

Pandora-Gilboa overwhelms Riverdale

MOUNT BLANCHARD — It didn't take the Riverdale boys basketball team long to figure out why Pandora-Gilboa leads the Blanchard Valley Conference in points per game, rebounds per game and allows the second-fewest points per game in the conference.

Crall scores 23 as Royals top Rockets

MORRAL — The Wynford boys basketball team held Ridgedale to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters, building a near insurmountable lead before taking its foot off the gas late in a 58-45 victory on Friday. Paced by 23 points from sophomore guard Josh Crall, Wynford (3-0, 2-0 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) went into the fourth quarter nearly doubling Ridgedale with a 39-20 lead.

Eagles hold off Warriors, 73-67

NORTH ROBINSON — In an early season Northern 10 Athletic Conference matchup, the Colonel Crawford Eagles edged the Mohawk Warriors 73-67 on Friday at Colonel Crawford High School. The Warriors connected on 20 of 33 shots from the field and 7 of 13 from 3-point range in the loss.

Upper splits with Bellevue, Willard

BELLEVUE — The Upper Sandusky wrestling team split in a tri-match Friday night at Bellevue, beating Willard, 66-5, but losing to the host Redmen, 38-25. Brayzin McDaniel (126 pounds), Brandon Derr (170), Noah Clary (182), Mitchell DeWitt (195), Connor Johnston (220 and 285) and Mark Collins (220 and 285) all went 2-0 for the Rams and earned all of the Rams’ six wins against the Redmen.

Old Fort has big 3rd quarter in 1st victory

OLD FORT — Old Fort used a strong third quarter to earn its first win of the season, 42-30 against Mohawk in a non-conference girls basketball game Thursday night. Leading 23-16, the Stockaders (1-5) held a 11-2 advantage in the third to move ahead by 16 points.
