Falcons win with huge 2-out rally in 7th inning

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale used a huge two-out rally to push across five runs in the top of the seventh inning and take an 8-3 non-conference baseball victory Tuesday against Allen East. With the game tied at 3 and no one on base and two outs in the seventh, the Falcons began their string of runners.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Allen East scored four runs in the third inning and took a 5-2 victory against Riverdale in non-conference softball action Tuesday. Allen East took a 1-0 lead after the second inning before their outburst in the third.

Games moved

There were no athletic events held in the area for the fifth straight day Monday with another full slate of postponements because of the weather. Upper Sandusky’s varsity baseball and softball games at Buckeye Central have been moved to Thursday.

McCallister to be honored

Upper Sandusky resident John McCallister will be honored by the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association at its awards banquet April 25. Every year, the GCFCA honors people who have worked with high school football players in the area, often coaches and sometimes media.

Diebler named assistant coach at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Upper Sandusky High School graduate Jake Diebler was hired Saturday as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Vanderbilt University. He will work under new head coach Bryce Drew, for whom he was a player while Drew was an assistant at Valparaiso University and then later was an assistant coach when Drew took over the head coaching job from his father, Homer Drew.

Weather wipes out weekend slate of games

Virtually the entire slate of high school athletics for the weekend has been canceled by the weather. Because of rain, the Mohawk varsity baseball and softball games against Colonel Crawford, scheduled for Thursday, have been moved to April 19.

Upper JV teams pick up wins

Upper Sandusky’s junior varsity softball team defeated Mohawk, 13-1, on Tuesday. The Rams’ Bre Rosario was 2 for 3 with a double, and Alivia Oney doubled. Jenna Rodriguez had a pair of singles.
