BUCYRUS — Madelyn Shasteen finished seventh to lead the Upper Sandusky girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish Saturday in the Bucyrus Elks Invitational at the Crawford County Fairgrounds.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Katie Benitez scored with less than 19 minutes remaining, and Riverdale’s girls soccer tied Bluffton, 1-1, in a non-conference game Saturday. Haley Beltz assisted on the goal.

BUCYRUS — Wyatt Smith is expected to be a pocket-passing presence at quarterback for the Wynford football team, but he showed Friday night, he also can beat a team with his legs.

CAREY — “It’s nothing we’re doing special,” Jonathon Mershman said, beaming. “The kids are just buying in and playing great.”

MOUNT GILEAD — Nate McMillan carried the load for Upper Sandusky, recording 343 rushing yards on 33 carries to lead the Rams to a 54-35 non-conference victory over Mount Gilead on the road Friday.

NEW WASHINGTON — Visiting Mohawk (2-0) pulled away from Buckeye Central (0-2) early with five first-quarter touchdowns en route to a one-sided 45-14 victory Friday night.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Despite three first-half fumbles and four in the game, Riverdale kept it’s balanced offensive attack going and cruised to a 43-8 non-conference win over Hardin Northern on Friday night. The win improves the Falcons to 2-0, a record they held last season before going 2-6 in their last eight.

CAREY — The Blue Devils’ busy volleyball week has not had an easy note. Carey was up-and-down in a win over Wynford, 25-13, 23-25, 25-7, 25-18, on Thursday.

CAREY — With a 172-176 victory against Ridgedale on Thursday, Carey is the last unbeaten team in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf play. Marcus Miller led the way for the Blue Devils (7-0, 5-0 N10) with an even-par 36 that included a pair of birdies.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Coby Miller scored with 24:42 remaining to help Riverdale earn a 1-1 draw with Liberty-Benton in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association boys match Thursday at Riverdale. Miller scored on a free kick from the right side of the penalty box, driven into a crowd of players, untouched past the goalkeeper.
