COLUMBUS — The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is seeking employers to enter the annual Safety Innovation Awards competition, which recognizes innovations that have reduced safety, ergonomic and occupational health risks for employees.

NEVADA — The Rev. Dennis Laferty opened the community in prayer, and the sheriff’s deputies showed up. So did the fire department, highway patrol and emergency medical services.

Treatment of three rooms at Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care is underway for the next two weeks after they were found to have bed bugs in July, the executive director confirmed Friday. Licensed practical nurse Becki Roush, Westbrook’s executive director, said all families, residents and staff were notified immediately after the facility received its first confirmed case of bed bugs in a single resident room July 11.

Area families had an opportunity to learn about the programs and services offered locally during the annual baby fair sponsored by Wyandot County Women, Infants and Children on Tuesday at Stepping Stones Park.

REYNOLDSBURG — Gov. John Kasich and Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David T. Daniels recently announced the winners of the 2016 “Agriculture is Cool!” visual arts contest. Ohio children enrolled in school or home-schooled during the 2015-16 academic year shared their personal interpretation of why Ohio agriculture is “cool” for their chance to win a trip to the Ohio State Fair.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation recently awarded five agricultural action and awareness grants that aim to help individuals and groups make a difference in their communities. The grants focused on four core areas: economic development, education, environment and the human-animal bond and are supported by the OFBF, a nonprofit, public, charitable organized registered in Ohio.

An officer responded to a report of an altercation between juveniles in the 200 block of Richardson Drive the night of July 24. They were told to stay away from each other.

MARSEILLES — The gardens around the country home of Lovena Trautwein are a gardener’s dream. Hundreds of geraniums, marigolds, daisies and other annuals follow paths around a shallow fish pond and a small shelter house.

A New York woman was taken to the hospital and arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated following a traffic crash Monday night on U.S. 30 near CH 330, according to a report from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.
