The election of pork producer delegate candidates for the 2018 National Pork Producers (Pork Act) delegate body will take place at noon Thursday during an Ohio Pork Council Board of Directors meeting at the Cincinnati Radisson, 668 W. 5th St., Covington, Kentucky.

SYCAMORE — Sycamore village officials strongly urge residents, business owners and all interested parties to attend a public hearing about a rezoning request that may set the table for a Dollar General store to come to town. The public hearing is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sycamore firehouse.

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School Board officially hired Patty Parrott as Union School assistant principal during Monday evening’s board meeting. Principal Jim Wheeler said about 12 candidates were interviewed but Parrott stood out.

CAREY — Carey council approved three emergency ordinances Monday to meet a loan deadline pertaining to work on a new wastewater treatment plant and to allow a new business to occupy an open space with a tax agreement. An emergency ordinance directing Mayor Jennifer Rathburn to enter into an enterprise zone agreement with Creative Plastic Concepts LLC passed unanimously.

CAREY — Some Carey high school students will experience learning in new ways next school year. Four teachers in the school will begin instituting standard-based learning in classrooms as a result of a High Schools That Work grant the district received.

Upper Sandusky Police Department soon will have a fourth lieutenant. The city safety committee unanimously voted to promote officer Patrick O’Connor during a special meeting Monday night.

WHARTON — Wharton Village Council had a solicitor present at its meeting Monday evening for the first time in more than a year. Sean Martin of Beck and Martin, LLC in Carey was on hand to offer legal advice to council.

There were no fatal traffic accidents on Wyandot County roadways reported between April 1 and June 30, according to a county safe community coalition report. One traffic fatality was reported during the first six months of 2017, the same number reported during the first half of 2016, the coalition reported.
