Village gets option to buy school property

CAREY — The Village of Carey will get a shot to buy the old school property on East South Street from the Carey Exempted Village Schools district before it goes to auction. The village planning commission on Tuesday approved a motion allowing the village to maintain a special use zoning classification on the property while it pursues negotiations with the school.

Longtime township employee retires

Crane Township trustees honored road maintenance supervisor Bill Shumaker prior to a meeting Monday night. Shumaker is set to retire after working the roads of the township for 34 years. “It’s been a good ride,” Shumaker said. “I’ve really enjoyed serving the taxpayers of Crane Township.”
