This spring, 34 students from the Upper Sandusky FFA competed in the State Spring Career Development Event Contests, or CDEs. This year Upper Sandusky had seven different contest areas that students participated in: Agronomy, Horse Judging, General Livestock, Nature Interpretation, Poultry, Wildlife Management, and Dairy Cattle.

The Upper Sandusky FFA hosted its 80th Annual Parent-Member Banquet April 6 to celebrate the achievements of the FFA and its members over the past year. More than 400 members, community figures, and parents came to support the program.

The Upper Sandusky FFA chapter recently received a $2,500 donation through a program with Monsanto’s Farmers Grow Communities.

The students at St. Peter School will be the beneficiaries of a donation given to the school Friday. The Wyandot Wildlife Conservation Club donated $2,000 to cover the costs of starting an archery program in the school’s physical education class.

Marseilles Mayor Rick Arnold hands two BBQ chicken dinners to Jonathan Zucker of rural Harspter during the community barbecue Saturday afternoon. The village sold out of the 400 available dinners and $2,300 was raised for the village park maintenance fund.

After 40 years in education and 35 years teaching math at Upper Sandusky Middle School, Sharon Calvin will retire at the end of May. “I’m just getting tired,” Calvin said. “Forty years is enough.” A Bluffton College graduate, Calvin taught for five years at Jackson Center Schools before coming to Upper Sandusky.

As the Wyandot County Archaeological and Historical Society prepares for a new spring, it is sprucing things up. The Wyandot County Museum saw significant renovations over the winter, and an open house is set for 6-8 p.m. Friday.
