Sycamore aims to oust unsightly junk vehicles

SYCAMORE — A new ordinance for junk vehicles received a first reading during a regular Sycamore Village Council meeting Tuesday night. The ordinance will allow the village to involve the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Department if residents don’t respond to requests to clear unused vehicles from their yards.

The American Red Cross is assisting an Upper Sandusky family after a two-story house fire Sunday night on Sunset Drive. An Upper Sandusky Police report states an officer responded to a fire on the 500 block of Sunset Drive at approximately 9:07 p.m. Sunday. The officer observed heavy smoke traveling north across the roadway and made contact with a female resident to confirm everyone was out of the home.

Nevada council considering rent increase for WEFD

NEVADA — In order to cover maintenance costs, the village of Nevada is looking at increasing the rent it charges the Wyandot East Fire District for use of most of the building they share. Nevada uses only a small portion of the building on Grant Street as a village office, with the rest of the building, which includes three emergency vehicle bays, rented to the district at a cost of $100 per month.

Bank asks Mohawk to keep funds local

SYCAMORE — The First National Bank of Sycamore made its case for the Mohawk Local School District to keep its funds local during Monday’s Mohawk Board of Education meeting. First National Bank of Sycamore President Dean Keller discussed the long term performance of the Ohio State Treasurer’s STAR Ohio account, which was an option presented to the board by a financial adviser during March’s meeting.

CAREY — During his report, Carey Exempted Village School District Superintendent Michael Wank discussed a new school funding formula proposal that is being presented to Ohio teachers and administrators by Ohio Rep. Bob Cupp and Ohio Rep. John Patterson.

BUCYRUS — Sunday, residents, employees, students, graduates, alumni and supporters of Wynford Local School District came together for the Annual Community Luncheon held at the high school cafeteria. Superintendent Fred Fox said that the day is a 21-year strong tradition to which the community and school board has looks forward.

The Danny Garza Memorial Foundation held its first fundraising event of 2019 on Saturday, a “Pins with Friends” bowling fundraiser at Wyandot Lanes. Event organizer Brian Webb said 53 people bowled at the event, which raised over $1,000. Awards were handed out to the highest and lowest score for men and women and for most strikes.
