COLUMBUS — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service encourages people and groups wanting to restore and protect critical wetlands, agricultural lands and grasslands to consider enrolling their property into conservation easements.

COLUMBUS — Controlling where the cattle roam may soon get a whole lot easier. Animal science researchers with The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) will be testing a virtual fence for cows and other livestock this summer. It’s akin to an invisible fence for a dog, triggering a harmless but attention-getting shock if the animal crosses an unseen boundary.

BUCYRUS — Luke Scott will represent Wynford FFA and the state of Ohio in the National FFA Star in Agribusiness. Growing up, he spent countless hours with his father and grandfather conducting all necessary activities for agricultural production.

COLUMBUS — The next deadline for Conservation Stewardship Program applications to be considered for funding in fiscal year 2019 is May 10. The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service plans to invest up to $700 million nationally for new enrollments and contract extensions in fiscal year 2019.

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools Board of Education met for its regular meeting Monday at South Elementary School, continuing in its series of visits to district schools. Classrooms were invited to choose projects that they have been working on to share with the board.

CAREY — Carey councilors Monday approved a resolution with the intent to award the construction contract for the wastewater treatment plant to allow funding for the project to be considered by a state agency next month. Councilors dispensed with the second and third readings and passed the resolution as an emergency.

The City of Upper Sandusky announced a change of fireworks companies at its regularly scheduled City Council meeting Monday. Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn reported the city interviewed several fireworks companies, and Pyro Technico, a company the city has worked with in the past, gave the city a really aggressive deal to get its business back.

A Tiffin woman was arrested on a manslaughter charge Wednesday afternoon. Amber R. Schaade, Tiffin, was arrested on a warrant on indictment that was handed down by the Wyandot County Grant Jury.

Attendees at an Easter egg hunt Saturday at Waterworks Park in Carey scoop up as many eggs as they can find. The hunt was the second Easter egg hunt held at Waterworks Park.
