White Shutter wine-ds up for season

New stage

NEVADA — A new stage and several new brews highlighted the 2019 seasonal opening of the White Shutter Winery and Brewery on Saturday. Local band Grape Jam performed after the rain died down and food trucks from The Corner Inn and Whitetail Ridge also were available for attendees.

Jan Rainey and Darci Powell Burlew were two of many who enjoyed the Mexican buffet fundraiser at Open Door Resource Center on Saturday. Event organizer Patti Spiegel said the organization almost doubled the profit from 2018 and said the event might be outgrowing the building.

Safety blotter: May 6, 2019

A caller reported a breaking and entering attempt at the concession stand at American Legion Field in Sycamore the afternoon of May 1. Extra patrols were performed in the area. Mandeep S. Sandhu, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, was cited for failure to control after a semi truck he was driving was stuck in a yard on the 11000 block of CH 4 the afternoon of May 1.
