Board approves earlier end to regular pool season June 22 is the day to be in Upper Sandusky. At the Upper Sandusky Parks Board regular meeting, the board approved a request from Brian Webb and Michael Lohmann for the use of the two baseball fields at Harrison Smith Park for a softball tournament to benefit Lohmann’s sister who has cancer. The first pitch will be at 8:30 a.m. June 22, and the event is expected to conclude by 10:30 p.m. that evening. Mayor Scott Washburn also announced that the second annual Robby Lee basketball tournament is also June 22 on the Robby Lee basketball courts at Bicentennial Park. Registration for the basketball tournament will start at 9 a.m. Kenneth Wessler additionally reminded the board that the annual car show, Wyandot Classics and Cruisers will also be at Harrison Smith Park June 22. Commissioners thankful for more indigent defense funding The Wyandot County Commissioners recently passed a resolution thanking Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio House of Representatives for their support of state indigent defense reimbursement. The resolution stated county budgets have been strained for decades by the state passing responsibility to counties for constitutionally-mandated requirements to provide legal counsel to indigent defendants. Nevada council hires Spengler for village mowing NEVADA — After giving consideration to three bids, Nevada Council voted to hire Scott Spengler to mow village property this year during Monday night’s council meeting. Spengler bid $5,500 to mow both the park and the sewer plant property with the village’s equipment and fuel. Council voted 3-1, with Michael Wise voting no and Rick Leeth abstaining, in favor of Spengler’s bid. Read More

Clifford’s family helps students with annual 5K Now in its sixth year, the 2019 Tammy Clifford Memorial 5K, 5 p.m. Saturday at the Upper Sandusky New Reservoir, holds special meaning for the students planning it and for Clifford’s family. Trevor Clifford was in middle school when his mother Tammy Clifford died. Now a senior, the funds raised through the 5K will go directly toward scholarships to help his graduating class. Read More

Safety blotter: May 13, 2019 An officer drove an Upper Sandusky man home from the Wyandot Memorial Hospital emergency room the early morning of May 10. A caller reported a vehicle parked in the Walmart parking lot for two days the afternoon of May 10. The responding officer placed a note on the vehicle stating the vehicle cannot remain there after hours. The owner later called and advised the vehicle had battery issues. Read More
