Wynford Elementary’s Thompson looks forward to new adventure

BUCYRUS — After 32 years in education, Jeanne Thompson, the elementary guidance counselor at Wynford is setting off on a new adventure. She graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1987, and started out teaching at Colonel Crawford, where she graduated high school just a few years earlier. Her schedule allowed her to have a wide range of experiences throughout the day with seventh grade art classes in the morning and regular kindergarten classes in the afternoon.

Safety blotter: June 7, 2019

An officer was dispatched to remove a bat from a residence on the 200 block of South Seventh Street the early morning of June 6. The officer was unable to locate the animal. An officer made contact with a residence on the 100 block of South Fifth Street, requesting they move a van so a tree trimming service could cut down a tree near their home the morning of June 6.

Carey man indicted in murder attempt

FINDLAY — A Carey man was indicted on four counts including attempted murder by the Hancock County Grand Jury Tuesday. Chad J. Howard, 37, Carey, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, a count of aggravated burglary and abduction as the result of an investigation started Sunday by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and other responding agencies including the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the McComb Police Department, after being summoned to the scene for a report of Howard attempting to break into a home while in possession of a knife.

Gypsy Moth mating disruption treatments to begin in Ohio

REYNOLDSBURG — The Ohio Department of Agriculture will begin aerial treatments designed to disrupt gypsy moth mating on 61,070 acres in 12 counties across the state, including Wyandot County. To help protect Ohio’s diverse habitat, the Ohio Department of Agriculture operates multiple programs aimed at managing the gypsy moth in Ohio. One such program, the Slow-the-Spread program, focuses on monitoring, detecting and reducing isolated populations to slow the gypsy moth’s movement across the state through treatments.

Patrol urges caution during ‘100 deadliest days of summer’

BUCYRUS — The time period from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend is referred to as the 100 deadliest days of summer. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to drive buckled, focused and sober. Last year, 336 fatal crashes killed 360 people during this time period. These 100 days only represent 28 percent of the calendar year, but they account for more than one third of all fatal traffic crashes and deaths. Operating a vehicle while impaired and speeding significantly contributed to these crashes. In fact, 37% of all fatal crashes were OVI-related and 28 percent were speed related.
