Keeping residents safe

The Upper Sandusky Fire Department was dispatched to Fairhaven Community on Sunday after an air conditioning unit overheated and caused a duct detector vent to be set off. The Upper Sandusky Police Department and Wyandot County EMS assisted at the scene.

Safety blotter: July 1, 2019

Officers attempted to remove a bat from a residence on the 300 block of West Wyandot Avenue the early morning of June 28. An officer transported an Upper Sandusky man home from Wyandot Memorial Hospital emergency room the morning of June 28. An officer assisted a Nevada man with a vehicle unlock on the 400 block of West Wyandot Avenue the afternoon of June 28.

Criminal, traffic cases heard

Garrett D. Bays, Kenton, charged by the Carey police with resisting arrest and domestic violence, pretrial held, continued to July 24. Daniel D. Buchanan, Upper Sandusky, charged by the state with criminal trespassing, pretrial held, continued to July 15. Michael K. Jones, Upper Sandusky, charged by the sheriff with assault, pretrial held, continued to July 24.

A community legacy: Upper pool lessons span generations

The name Jean Moon has nearly become synonymous with the Upper Sandusky Community Pool and swimming lessons. Moon recalls that the pool was built and opened in 1941, but said she didn’t take lessons the first year it was open, as it was only open part of the time. Instead she taught herself some of the basics of swimming. Then, in 1942, when she was 12 years old, she began taking lessons with Antoinette Lowery and George Rieser.
