Safety blotter: July 19, 2019

A caller reported a man yelling at the intersection of Hicks and Fifth streets the early morning of July 18. The responding officer did not locate the man and found the area to be quiet. An Upper Sandusky man reported harassment the afternoon of July 18. A report was filed in case the situation escalates.

Area non-profits and businesses brought their heads together Wednesday morning to share social media tips and strategies during a social media roundtable at the Upper Sandusky Community Library. The event featured representatives from the Upper Fantasy of Lights, the USCL, the Bucyrus Public Library, Wyandot Memorial Hospital, the Wyandot County Historical Society, Time Staffing, Marion Technical College, Angeline School and Industries, Quest Federal Credit Union and more.

The Wyandot County Chamber of Commerce’s golf outing title sponsor First Citizens National Bank elected to donate 10% of the funds from the annual golf outing to United Way of Wyandot County on Wednesday.

Beat the heat this weekend at area cooling centers

With heat index values rising to 100 and above over the next few days, cooling stations are opening in the area for residents who do not have air conditioning. Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church, 108 Malabar Drive, Upper Sandusky, is open today, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The atrium will be open for all who need it and water will be available. Snacks will not be provided, but residents may bring their own. Residents also are invited to bring books and other entertainment with them.

Ohio agencies put focus on work zone awareness

DEFIANCE — The heart of summer is here, and with it, the height of construction season on area highways. Ohio’s highway network is maintained through consistent attention, making work zones a necessity. Reminding motorists to give workers within those zones the consideration and level of safety needed to perform their work was the focus of an event Tuesday, July 9 with representatives of the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Ohio Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Defiance post.

Officers responded to a dispute over property on South Seventh Street the early morning of July 17. Two parties agreed on a time and date to exchange a house key for personal property. A caller reported a suspicious male with a group of females on Indian Mill Drive behind the Wyandot County Fairgrounds the afternoon of July 17. The responding officers located the subjects in the parking lot of Wyandot Memorial Hospital, and the subjects advised they were heading to the splash pad at Bicentennial Park and that no one was doing anything wrong.

Bridgestone celebrates 20 years of plant 3 in Upper

Celebrating 20 years

Bridgestone celebrated the 20-year anniversary of plant 3 in Upper Sandusky on Thursday with a plant tour for local community leaders and a ceremony for its workers. Plant Manager John Vanderpool explained that plant 3 is part of Bridgestone’s diversified products. Bridgestone has two plants in Upper Sandusky, plant 3 is part of the Foam Products Division while plant 2 is Anti-Vibration Division products.
