Carey FFA officers retreat

CAREY — On July 16, the officers of the Carey FFA chapter traveled together to a cabin near Hocking Hills for the annual chapter officer retreat. Within three days time, the seven officers took part in several team-building activities and worked to prepare for the approaching school year; including everything from improvements to new ideas, which will continue to preserve the education of agriculture.

USDA opens enrollment for market facilitation program

WASHINGTON — The Sign-up is now open for the Market Facilitation Program, a U.S. Department of Agriculture program to assist farmers who continue to suffer from damages because of trade retaliation from foreign nations. Through MFP, USDA will provide up to $14.5 billion in direct payments to impacted producers, part of a broader trade relief package announced in late July. The sign-up period runs through Dec. 6.

Tree removed from Indian Mill dam

The Indian Mill’s nine-month nuisance is finally gone. A large white oak tree had been stuck in the dam of the Sandusky River at Indian Mill since November 2018, but six months of high water caused by a wet winter, spring and summer made it unsafe to remove the tree, Wyandot County Commissioner Bill Clinger said.

Burke joins in at first Mohawk BOE

New Mohawk Superintendent Dr. Mark Burke, seven days into the job, participated in his first Mohawk Board of Education meeting Monday evening. Burke has 18 years of experience in education, including six years as the Bucyrus High School Principal. The Mohawk Board of Education approved a three-year contract for Burke in February.

Carey BOE approves purchase of new bus

CAREY — Carey Exempted Village School District Board of Education members on Monday approved a resolution to lease/purchase of a 2021 IC 77-passenger bus at a total cost of $79,606. The new bus, which is expected to arrive around Nov. 1, will replace two current 15-year-old, 72-passenger buses that will be used on their regularly scheduled routes this school year until the new bus arrives.

Thursday RPC meeting cancelled

The Wyandot County Regional Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled. At this time, there are no pre-application guidance or variance issues to present to the Regional Planning Commission Board.
