The Ohio Department of Transportation recently released an updated schedule of highway construction occurring within Wyandot County. Work is dependent upon weather conditions. U.S. 23 between CH 97 and the U.S. 30 interchange, north of Upper Sandusky, will be restricted to one lane in each direction through the work zone for pavement resurfacing. Variable speed limit signs will be in place to display the legal, posted speed limit through the work zone.

BUCYRUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, announced today an OVI checkpoint is being held from 8-10 p.m. tonight on CR 330 west of U.S. 30 and east of Stetzer Road, in Crawford County.

When Upper Sandusky High School students head back to school on Aug. 22, parents and students will be following a new traffic pattern for drop off and pick up each school day. The changes begin with the first day of classes Thursday.

A caller reported a semi hit a railroad crossing post and kept going on the South Warpole Street railroad crossing the early morning of Aug. 15. Ashley A. Miles, Lima, was cited for speed at the intersection of Spring and Hazel streets the morning of Aug. 15.

Public transportation was officially launched in Wyandot County on Wednesday morning with a ribbon cutting at the home base of Wyandot Ride Service, 100 S. Warpole St., Upper Sandusky. The Ohio Department of Transportation granted funds to the Hancock Hardin Wyandot Putnam Community Action Commission to expand public transportation offerings from Hancock County to Wyandot County. HHWP CAC was able to purchase four new vehicles to support the Wyandot Ride Service.

Wednesday, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose stopped at the Wyandot County Board of Elections to speak with staff, tour the facility and to discuss election security. LaRose spoke about the new security directive that, he said, was sent to all 88 election boards in Ohio’s a few months ago. The directive was created as a checklist to improve security, LaRose said, and election boards are responsible for enacting the directive by January, in order to boost election security.

BUCYRUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Crawford County Friday evening. The low-manpower OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

A Forest man was traveling eastbound on Ohio 294 near CH 109 when he struck a deer that entered the roadway, causing minor damage the morning of Aug. 12. Monica L. Vinicky, Delaware, was transported from the Cleveland Pre-release Center in Cleveland to the Wyandot County Courthouse for a hearing on judicial release the morning of Aug. 13.
