Mohawk Community Library announced the winners of its summer coloring contest with a Back to School bash Tuesday. Winners were gifted a bag loaded with school supplies including markers, crayons, pencils, glue sticks, paper, folders, safety scissors as well as a $20 gift card to purchase a new backpack.

Safety blotter: July 31, 2019

Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on the 300 block of Spring Street the afternoon of July 29. The involved parties were advised to avoid future contact with each other. An Upper Sandusky man reported the use of his debit card information by someone from Bellevue the afternoon of July 29. The man was advised to contact the Bellevue Police Department because the offense occurred in its jurisdiction.

Wyandot County authorized for emergency haying and grazing

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency County Executive Director Charlotte Schmachtenberger recently announced Wyandot County is authorized for emergency haying and grazing use of Conservation Reserve Program acres outside of the primary nesting season. Emergency haying is permitted from July 16 through Aug. 31. Emergency grazing is permitted from July 16 through Sept. 30.

#PartyOn: Carey Fest opens Thursday

CAREY — Representatives from the Center for Science and Industry, several musical performers and a wide variety of food and games await those who will be attending Carey Fest Thursday through Saturday. The 2019 Carey Fest, themed “#PartyOn,” will take place from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, concluding with fireworks, and from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

Officials: Sunny Farms Landfill to pay over $3M in settlement

FOSTORIA — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recently announced that Sunny Farms Landfill has agreed to pay $1.71 million in civil penalties to resolve alleged violations of past water pollution, solid waste and air pollution control laws. They also have agreed to pay an additional $2.01 million for underreported and mischaracterized fees associated with waste entering landfill facilities.

Safety blotter: July 30, 2019

Candida D. Stutzman, Upper Sandusky, was arrested on a bench warrant from Upper Sandusky Municipal Court for failure to appear the morning of July 27. Betty Bennett, Upper Sandusky, was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign and seat belt violation following a two-vehicle accident on South Seventh and Church streets the evening of July 27
