Oney, Franz take top spots at USHS

Upper Sandusky High School seniors Alivia Marie Oney and Jordan Elizabeth Franz have been named valedictorian and salutatorian respectively for the USHS graduating class of 2019. Oney is the daughter of Nick and Deanna Oney and resides in Upper Sandusky. She is graduating with a 3.99 GPA and will attend Ohio State University to major in nutrition sciences.

St. Peter ready for festival

St. Peter School will host its annual summer festival from 2-11 p.m. June 8. There will be food, games, rides, prizes and entertainment for people of all ages. This year, the event will include all of the usual favorites, along with a multiple new activities. The event is open to the public with proceeds benefiting the school.

ODOT announces project updates in Wyandot County

The Ohio Department of Transportation recently announced construction updates for highway projects in Wyandot County. Work is dependent upon weather conditions. U.S. 23 over Tymochtee Creek, just north of TH 103, will be restricted to one lane in each direction for a bridge rehabilitation project. The project also includes resurfacing of U.S. 23 between CH 97 and the U.S. 30 interchange, north of Upper Sandusky, which is expected to begin in early June. Lane restrictions are possible within the entire work zone for work done in preparation for resurfacing. Work is being performed by The Shelly Company, Findlay.

Safety blotter: May 31, 2019

A caller reported numerous vehicles parked on the 400 block of East Bigelow Street without moving for a long period of time the morning of May 30. Larry R. Blair, Marion, was issued a parking citation and a vehicle was towed from the scene.

Ratliff named Elks state president

President and first lady featured

“Mark Ratliff has never done anything” — at least, that’s how he sees it. Ratliff was recently installed as the Ohio Elks Association state president for the 2019-2020 Elks year, which runs April to April. He is a current member of Elks Lodge No. 83, in Upper Sandusky.

Kuenzli to serve time for drug trafficking charge

An Upper Sandusky man was sentenced to 30 months in prison Wednesday for aggravated trafficking in drugs. Andrew Kuenzli, 28, was originally arrested Feb. 14 by the Wyandot County Major Crimes Unit after the unit became aware of a shipment of methamphetamine that was to be delivered to Upper Sandusky. He originally was charged with complicity and drug abuse, possession of cocaine, before pleading guilty to the reduced charge April 11. The drug abuse charge was dismissed.

Vets Services solves ledger paper issue

A record keeping issue was solved at Wednesday’s meeting of the Wyandot County Veterans Service Commission. County Veterans Service Officer Theresa Miller had previously informed the commission that the historical ledger, which had financial records and meeting minutes dating back many years, had run out of paper and the company that the commission had worked with before had gone out of business.

Sycamore man injured in rollover crash Tuesday

FREMONT — A Sycamore man was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Tuesday morning in Seneca County. The Fremont post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports Raymond Leimgruber III, 33, of Sycamore, was traveling southbound on TR 17 in a 2005 Toyota Scion when the vehicle drove off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned, causing disabling damage.
