Village of Sycamore cracks down on junk vehicles

SYCAMORE — Follow-up information on Sycamore’s new junk vehicle ordinance was given at Tuesday’s Sycamore Village Council Meeting. Council member Chris Clinger reported a housing committee meeting was held two weeks ago because the village received several complaints of violations of the new ordinance. Clinger said pictures were taken of the properties and it was determined to have the village solicitor send letters to the property owners, which were delivered by the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.

Free lunch for children at John Stewart Wednesday

The Wyandot County Mentoring Program is offering a free summer lunch program for youth in Wyandot County from 11:30 a.m. to noon every Wednesday until Aug. 14 at John Stewart UMC in Upper Sandusky. The program is for youth in grades kindergarten through 12 and is sponsored in part by the United Way of Wyandot County, Wyandot County Family and Children First and the Wyandot County Mentoring Program.

Grant to fund new pickleball court at Harrison Smith Park

Upper Sandusky’s Harrison Smith Park will be home to a pickleball court in the future, according to Park Manager Keith Niederkohr. Upper Sandusky’s Parks and Recreation, Niederkohr said, is one of the recipients of a 2019 grant from Upper’s Winter Fantasy of Lights fundraiser. He said that the money will be used to resurface the tennis and large basketball court, and said the smaller basketball court at Harrison Smith Park will be resurfaced and reutilized as a pickleball court.

Mohawk staff, students ask BOE to consider permanent therapy dog

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Board of Education heard an recommendation from students for getting a permanent therapy dog at its meeting Monday. Sixth grade English and language arts teacher Erika Orians spoke to the board, explaining she had given out a writing project about therapy dogs and the response from her class was overwhelming, with three essays in support of having a permanent therapy dog at Mohawk Local Schools being read.

Carey BOE approves solar field

CAREY — Carey Exempted Village School District Board of Education members on Monday approved a resolution to accept a proposal from Eitri Foundry, in partnership with Vaughn Industries, for solar services and to authorize the treasurer and superintendent to sign necessary documents.

Nevada water bills to see slight increase

NEVADA — Nevada residents will be seeing a slight increase to their monthly water bills. Council voted Monday night to include a $3 monthly storm sewer maintenance fee to each resident’s water bill. The money collected would be saved to go toward replacing and repairing storm sewers.
