WASHINGTON — Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue designated 12 Ohio counties as primary natural disaster areas. Producers who suffered losses due to three separate disaster events may be eligible for U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency emergency loans.

The Wyandot County Sheriff’s office is awaiting official autopsy results of a deceased dog found at a Wyandot County facility before pursuing charges against the owners, Sheriff Mike Hetzel said Monday. In a press release Friday, Hetzel said Orville and Debbra Alabaugh, of Tiffin, face potential criminal prosecution, as well as charges through the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture. Hetzel confirmed Monday that the sheriff’s office intends to file charges of some kind.

CAREY — At its meeting Monday, Carey Village Council took steps toward resuming a culvert project that will help with the flow of water throughout the village. Councilors approved a first reading of an ordinance that would authorize Village Administrator Roy Johnson to make an application for and to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Public Works Commission, Round 34, or the Small Government Commission in an amount not to exceed $426,000 combined loan and/or grant and appropriating the necessary funds.

In the Upper Sandusky Service Committee meeting on Monday, Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn reported problems with people thinking piles of stone near the city’s compost pile are free to use. Washburn said City Law Director Mark Ellis approved a sign stating the stone was purchased by the city and anyone taking it will be charged with theft. Once the wastewater treatment plant is built, the stone will be enclosed behind a fence, Washburn said.

An officer assisted the Upper Sandusky Fire Department with an alarm at Fairhaven the early morning of Aug. 2. The Harvey Police Department in Harvey, Illinois, reported it recovered a stolen gun the early morning of Aug. 2.

With heavy rainfall preventing area farmers from doing their jobs this spring, area businesses and individuals have joined together to give those affected a night off. The Wyandot County Farmers Night Off will be 6-9 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds and will feature a free meal for all Wyandot County farmers and their families.

Salome Gonzalez, Bronx, New York, was cited for failure to control after a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 23 near CH 42 the morning of July 26. Gonzalez was traveling northbound on U.S. 23 when he failed to negotiate a right turn onto CH 42, driving off the left side of the roadway on CH 42, striking a depressed ditch embankment and then a tree.
