Upper council looks at joining energy aggregate

By CALLAN PUGH City editor KIRBY — Plans for the community clean-up were discussed by Kirby Village Council at its July meeting Tuesday. Mayor Tim Stansbery said he had received some information from Hoffbauer Disposal Services regarding a community clean-up. He said he wanted to clarify that the clean-up would need to be community-wide regardless of if people were customers and discussed that a portion of the contract regarding the number of items a person could throw out would need to be changed so that people could throw out as much of the approved items as needed as in past years. Stansbery said based on the information he had so far, it seemed Hoffbauer would offer a lower rate than Rumpke, which completed the cleanup last year. The council also discussed that using Hoffbauer could provide the community a chance to see how their services work, because Hoffbauer is interested in providing garbage pick-up services in the area. Stansbery said he would aim to firm up questions and to get a plan together for the trash pick-up so it could be voted on at the August meeting. The council also discussed potential dates for the pickup noting that the last week of September or the first week of October, potentially Oct. 1 or 2 would be the best to avoid conflicts with Labor Day and the Wyandot County Fair. Arlington Gas completed a gas line replacement in an area that had crushed village drainage tile. It was discussed that Todd Hackworth would need to complete tile work soon so that the area would be able to settle before the upcoming paving projects in the village. A tree removal project in the village also was completed and had been done well the council agreed. The council discussed frustrations with internet service in the village. It was mentioned that the structure that had once held the internet equipment has been down since it blew down on Memorial Day weekend. New transmitters had been put up according to Doug Snyder but the council agreed that internet services in the village continue to be poor. Darl Snyder and Stansbery also discussed their recent presentation at the Mayor’s Breakfast in which they spoke about an ODOT contract that appears to make the village responsible for fixing any damage done to state highways. The duo also proposed a change to the Ohio Revised Code that would allow smaller municipalities to use the street fund to pay for streetlights. Currently the funding comes from the general fund, which is limited and puts additional stress on villages’ already small budgets. The council tabled a contract for the Wyandot County Solid Waste Management Plan revisions. The plan needs to be passed by Aug. 27, but the council didn’t receive a clear copy of what had changed or what it was approving. The council tabled the matter with plans to find out more before the August meeting at which it was hoped to have a copy of the changes so the council could know what it was voting on.
