COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board is made up of the state’s best and brightest young leaders, hand-picked to contribute to the success of the Ohio State Fair each year. Selected to represent their respective youth organizations, these students serve on behalf of thousands of students across Ohio.

The Envirothon competition is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students. The Envirothon tests students’ knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues.

Conservation Reserve Program participants are responsible for ensuring adequate, approved vegetative and practice cover is maintained to control erosion throughout the life of the contract after the practice has been established. Participants also must control undesirable vegetation, weeds (including noxious weeds), insects and rodents that may pose a threat to existing cover or adversely impact other landowners in the area.

FOREST — At the free 4R Technology Review Field Day, retailers, farmers and other interested parties will hear from experts and see field demonstrations focused on strengthening the industry’s commitment to improving the quality of Ohio’s waterways.

REYNOLDSBURG — The Ohio Department of Agriculture will begin aerial treatments designed to disrupt gypsy moth mating on 32,526 acres in 15 counties, including Wyandot, across the state. To help protect Ohio’s diverse habitat, the Ohio Department of Agriculture operates multiple programs aimed at managing the gypsy moth in Ohio.

The nomination period for local Farm Service Agency county committees begins Friday. It is important for county committees to reflect America's diversity.

The Upper Sandusky FFA traveled to the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus the first part of May for the 90th Ohio State FFA Convention. At the convention, individuals and the chapter were recognized for their hard work over the past year.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District nominating committee is searching for qualified candidates who are interested in serving on their board of supervisors. Supervisors are public officials responsible to the people of Crawford County.

The Gottfried Nature Center and the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District will be holding a summer day camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21 at the Gottfried Nature Center on CH 330 west of Upper Sandusky. The all day camp will include sessions involving hands-on investigations into the areas of creatures that fly, food chain producers, trees and plants, and a collection of outdoor games and nature fun activities.
