Public Employee Retirees Inc seeking new members at September 11 meeting

Step up, be concerned and involved in your local PERI Chapter regarding retirement pension and health care benefits. Now is the time to join a local chapter. Membership in PERI at both the state and local level demonstrates that members understand how important it is to stand as one to protect pension and benefits. Whether it is the fight to protect cost of living allowance or other issues that could compromise the strength of the funds, PERI will be there to work to protect the pension.

Safety blotter: August 24, 2019

Officers assisted an elderly male who was confused and could not locate his vehicle on the 100 block of North Sandusky Avenue the evening of Aug. 17. The vehicle was located and the man was transported to Wyandot Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was secured and the man’s key was returned to him.

HanCo Children’s Choir hosting Monday auditions

FINDLAY — The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts is now accepting audition registrations for the 2019-2020 year of the Hancock County Children’s Choir. The Hancock County Children’s Choir is a community-based treble voice children’s chorus. It is open to all 2-5 grade children in the Greater Hancock County area. Any child with an unchanged voice in grades 2 through 5 who can commit to the rehearsal times 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday evenings is welcome to audition for the choir. The first rehearsal begins Sept. 9.

Citizen’s Sheriff Academy Class starts in September

FINDLAY — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office will be offering their Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Class this fall, beginning on Thursday Sept. 5. The 10-week class is held from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday evenings. Each class features a different area of the Sheriff’s Office, with instructors who specialize in that area.

HHWP CAC offering cooling assistance

The HHWP Community Action Commission will help income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months. The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program began July 1 and will run until Aug. 31, 2019. The Summer Crisis Program provides assistance to low-income households with an elderly member (60 years or older), or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health. In 2018, HHWP assisted 439 households in Hancock, Hardin, Wyandot, and Putnam Counties with utility bill assistance via the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program. Additionally, 179 air conditioners, 269 fans, and 2 AC repairs for low-income seniors and individuals with health conditions that required cooling were provided.
